If you ever blow a tire bead out in the field, here is one way you can get it reseated without a bunch of extra tools. All you need is a set of valve stem tools, a Hilift jack, some starter fluid, and a lighter!
Use this technique at your own risk!
Here we go-
First, you need to take out the valve from the valve stem
Here is the valve and the tool that made it possible to remove
If the bead rolled over the outside of your wheel, it needs to get back on the inside of the lip (OK so this tire isn't- but for demonstration purposes, lets pretend!)
If jumping on it isn't enough, use your Hilift!
The Hilift makes short work of it
Next, get out you favorite can of starter fluid
Be sure to get plenty inside of the tire cavity
Having a bud helps to open it up so you can spray it in
Strategically position yourself so that the spray will reach the tire, but not you and ignite! BE VERY CAREFUL!!!
When she goes up, the tire may need to be kicked some to get it to seat
There it is! Put the valve back in the stem and she is ready to be reflated! |
Of course, in some locations EXTREME caution needs to be exercised so that a fire is not started. Please use your common sense and don't blow yourself up.
